An Interview With My Eight Year Old Daughter

Well, school is officially over for the year and I am stuck at home (most days) with my daughter. While attempting to survive online learning, self isolating, and, most importantly, trying not to kill one another – I thought it might be fun to conduct an interview with my eight year old daughter.

Here’s a fun hypothetical!

You are stranded on a desert island and you can only bring three things with you. What do you bring? (Let’s say that you are provided with enough food and water to survive.) I need sunglasses, Bunbun (stuffed bunny), and a blanket.

  • If you were given $10,000 to buy whatever you wanted – what would you buy? I would buy a Mac computer, an iphone, air pods, an Apple watch (I’m seeing a trend here!), and I would buy very expensive jewelry!
  • Who do you look up to and why? Tom Cruise! Because he is my favourite actor! (Hello Staci Jax from Rock of Ages)
  • If you could be any animal, which one would you be and why? I would be a monkey because I love to jump on couches!
  • What is the grossest thing you can think of? Blood.
  • What advice would you give your parents? Shut up!!!
  • You’re at the beach. What’s the first thing you do? Go swimming.
  • What makes you feel brave? Having my Mom or Dad with me when I’m doing something scary.
  • If you joined the circus, what would your circus act be? Making dolphins jump through hoops on fire!

Let’s touch a little on the pandemic that is currently plaguing the world.

We, as the united population, are enduring an unprecedented event. This pandemic is challenging most adults to their core and testing every last part of their being. But what about the kids? How are children coping with this deadly virus spreading throughout the world?

  • We’ve explained what is happening with the virus to you. But do you really understand what is happening in the world? People are dying from being sick.
  • How are you coping with staying at home and not being able to go anywhere? I’m feeling sad.
  • Do you miss school? Or do you like learning online while at home? Yes, I miss school, but I do like learning at home.
  • If the virus were gone and you could safely go any where – where would you go and why? I would go to the mall to buy earrings at Claires!
  • Who do you miss the most? I miss my Grandma Linda!

Whether you never read this again or, because of this fun interaction, you begin a yearly tradition. Engaging your kids with simple and fun conversation starters is a great way to find out something about your children that, perhaps, you didn’t already know.
