Most weekday mornings are a rush in this mama’s house. Overslept, hit snooze one too many times, and mini-me is awake but just wants to stay in bed. Adopting a more simplified skincare and makeup routine was a must and since doing so, the morning rush has been a little less stressful. Here is a super easy everyday makeup routine for mama & daughter.

Every minute really is precious when we’re trying to get our kids and ourselves out the door from Monday to Friday. But relying on just a few essential products can help turn down the chaos and complication exponentially.
Of course, always start with a well cleansed face, followed by moisturizer and sunscreen – of course. This mama uses mostly The Ordinary for skincare. The little, who turned eleven last month, has been regularly using skincare products from Cera Ve and Cetaphil. Now, when it comes to makeup, here is what we’re using.
Light Foundation & Concealer
Mom
Full foundation is something yours truly does not like. Too heavy and cakey! A light tinted moisturizer with just enough coverage is just fine. Waso Shikulime Color Control Oil-Free Moisturizer Spf 30 by Shiseido is the lastest on the roster lately. Shiseido has created and discontinued their tinted moisturizer three times now. But I continue to buy the latest and greatest because it just works!
Concealer is only used as needed. Or, more accurately, as it’s remembered and enough time is allotted. Since this particular makeup product isn’t used as often, there is no usual product. On a recent shopping trip I updated my old concealer (it’s important to discontinue using old makeup products) for a new one, so I bought Kosas Brightening Concealer that also contains a daytime eye cream.
Daughter
An eleven year-old does not need foundation or concealer. However, my eleven year-old loves makeup and will often steal my concealer. So why not just get her some! Instead of spending a fortune on something that may (and likely will) go to waste, we opted for a less expensive Sephora brand.

Blush or Bronzer
Mom
As a pretty fair-faced woman, blush is an absolute must-have for my makeup routine. Nars blush has been the best so far. Not too shiny or sparkly and a neutral shade that goes with every look and any occasion. Bronzer, on the other hand, is only used from time to time. A while back I got a bronzer palette by Tarte in a subscription box. Love it! A selection of powder and cream bronzers in a variety of shades helps to create such a great look.
Daughter
Blush and bronzer is something that a young woman of a pre-teen age can certainly get away with wearing. Again, she just has a basic Sephora brand for the time being, but often “borrows” her mama’s more expensive brands. A little goes a long way and as long as the shades aren’t too dark and are applied properly it’s okay.
Highlighter
Neither mom nor daughter really uses a highlighter product very often. Thanks to multi-task products and palettes, we have a few varieties to choose from when the need or desire arises. The Tarte palette mentioned above also contains a highlighting powder. But we also have a highlighting stick from Benefit, a blush/highlighter from Ilia, and a beautiful dusting powder from Pure Minerals. All of these makeup items we share!
Mascara
Mom
This has to be THE number one makeup item that is used daily – even when I don’t want to wear any makeup! For the past few years, I have been using Roller Lash Curling & Lifting Mascara from Benefit Cosmetics religiously. This mascara has been a staple in my makeup bag and I recommend it to all of my friends.
Daughter
Due to the price tag on mama’s go-to mascara, the little gets a slightly more affordable – yet still a great product – brand. My daughter, like her mom and dad, was blessed with very light eye lashes. So she often wears mascara. The last brand we got was Mabelline Volume Express The Colossal Mascara because it is washable and cost less than $10.
Brow Filler
Even though my mini-me wants to use a brow filler (very blond eye brows), she is a little too young yet. My go-to brow filler, however, is the Universal Brow Pencil from Winky Lux. This pencil is the best as it comes in an all-brow shade and has triangle-shaped tip for simplified application. This pencil was first introduced to me from another subscription box, but I was able to find this amazing makeup product on Amazon!
Lip Gloss
Mom
Lip products is something that is kept very basic when it comes to my every day routine. A simple lip balm or tinted moisturizing oil is really all I use. Plus a lip scrub when needed. The brands that are currently in this mama’s makeup bag are Ilia, Tarte, Burt’s Bees, Sephora, and Eos.
Daughter
This little, on the other hand, loves her some lip gloss and uses the abundance of brands and colours in her makeup bag nearly every day. We don’t like this eleven year-old to wear darker shades to school or our and about, but the lighter variety are certainly fair game. She has a multitude of lip glosses to choose from by Glossier, Sephora, NYX, and Lip Smackers.
Before bed though …
We always make sure to wash the day off our face – both of us. It’s important to teach our youngsters to wash our face at the end of the day to remove any makeup, as well as dirt and oil. We keep our cleansing routine simple with uncomplicated products from The Ordinary, Cetaphil, Bioderma, and Neutrogena.
