Simple Everyday Makeup

The multiple steps of layers upon layers of pore-clogging products that make up (pun intended) a full face of makeup is not appealing to me! Summer, in particular, is a time of year I prefer to wear as little as possible in way of beauty products. A simple everyday makeup and skincare routine is all I need!

Simple everyday makeup and skincare is the current trend.

And for good reason. Beauty product users are foregoing the look of caked on products and complicated beauty regimens for a more streamlined and ultimately more cost effective look and routine. This trend is referred to as skinimalism and it’s the new thing in beauty!

See what’s new from Stella & Dot.

This minimalist approach to beauty is all about letting your own skin shine. Using makeup and skincare products to enhance your natural beauty instead of covering it up. The object is to use only products that you really need and to not waste time and money on over-priced brands that are unnecessary and may cover up your true glow.

No need to invest in more or new products.

Use what you already have in your beauty bag, but keep it simple. Like every other beauty product junkie, I have an abundance of makeup, skin, and hair care products. Most of which will likely get tossed because it is past its shelf life! Save a little $$$, help keep waste out of our landfills, and help rescue your skin all at once! Once you’ve used your back stock, than consider buying more.

Consider multi-tasking makeup and skincare.

When going for the less-is-more approach to a makeup look, consider investing in dual purpose goods. Makeup with multiple benefits – like a tinted moisturizer with SPF – help to simplify the application process. Some other examples might be an eyeliner that doubles as a brow filler, lip gloss that can be used as a highlighter and blush, or an eye shadow palette with shades that suitable as a bronzer or blush. There are so many products on the market that serve more than one purpose!

Be more selective with your beauty purchases in the future.

Another aspect of the skinimalism trend is the use of more natural products. Taking the care and time to research products before delving into shopping in order to buy what you actually need and what is best for your skin. Specifically look for shorter ingredient lists and naturally derived ingredients. Also be conscious of the packaging. Most beauty brands are opting for recyclable or biodegradable packaging in order to be more earth friendly.

Beauty products don’t have to cost a fortune.

It’s okay to buy skincare and makeup at drug stores, amazon, and even … eeekkk … Walmart!!! I bought into the whole pricey-skincare-and-makeup-has-to-be-THE-best bullshit, but there are soooo many other options out there – other than Sephora or Ulta! With the exception of a couple tried and true makeup products, I too will be turning to cheaper alternatives in the future for my beauty needs.

So, what do you really need?

  • A basic cleanser, moisturizer, and exfoliate tailored to you skin type. Check out The Ordinary.
  • Something to even out your natural skin tone. Perhaps a tinted moisturizer. Look for one with SPF, like Waso Colour Smart Day Moisturizer with SPF 30 by Shiseido – available on Amazon.
  • Mascara is really all you need for eye makeup. Plus maybe a brow liner to fill in sparse eye brows.
  • A natural blush – which can be doubled as an eye shadow – for a subtle glow.
  • Lip balm or a neutral lip gloss to finish the look!

Save time in the morning with simple everyday makeup.

With a more minimalist method of prepping and primping each morning, think of all the free time you’ll have!! Not that much really, but perhaps a little less of a rush! Whether you practice skinimalism for only a short while or for the long haul – your skin and your pocket book with thank you.

Let your true glow shine and your confidence grow, beautiful!

Yes to be more selective of your skincare products. There are many brands that are backed by science and are amazing for the skin while other brands have more sketchy lab work and can make the skin go from bad to worse (I know from experience). Also, love how you said it’s ok to buy from Walmart or drug stores! Expensive does not equal good product/quality/experience.

Thank you so much Loren! As I’ve gotten older, I’ve really changed the way I approach skincare a makeup! Scaling down my regimen to use less product is not only a time & money saver – but also a savior for my skin!

      Cheers to our natural glow!

as a minimalist & past makeup hoarder, i’ve learned the benefits of finding products that have dual purposes. i use bronzer as eyeshadow for instance. makeup is supposed to be creative anyway & it’s an easy way to get proper use of everything. when i owned too much makeup, i’d rarely get through it all before it expired on me. less is always more 🙂

I right with you there! I have sooo much in the way of skincare and makeup products – I’ll never use them all before they expire! I definitely don’t want to waste any product, but when I do purchase more product, I will be a lot more selective in what I buy.
Thank you so much for stopping by!
