5 Ways to Keep Your Blog Present

The life of a blogger or content creator is far from glamorous. Well, for the majority of us anyways! There are times when, even though work needs to be done, the creative juices needed to publish fresh content is lacking. However, remaining productive is still doable! Here are 5 ways to keep your blog present.

Update Older Blog Posts

Taking the time to revise those posts published months – or even years – ago is a smart way to increase page views and remain productive. Amending your content allows you to edit images, refine outdated content, and include related links and posts. Refreshing older blog posts is also a prime way to improve your site’s SEO.

Promote! Advertise! Share!

After hitting “publish” on new posts, I automatically get a prompt to share my new content to Facebook and Twitter. But, most of the other social sharing and networking platforms are often over-looked – or simply forgotten. Here are a few places to share your content and increase traffic to your site.

  • Pinterest. Remember, Pinterest is a search engine site – not a social media platform! Don’t forget to join some relevant Pinterest group boards to share your content as well.
  • Twitter. Browse blog-sharing hashtags, like #BloggerSunday, where you can interact with fellow bloggers and share some love!
  • Facebook. This encompasses sharing groups, pages, personal pages, and live video.
  • Instagram. Reels, stories, feed, and live are all super easy ways to get your content to new readers.
  • Email Subscribers. Don’t forget to send new content to your loyal followers. Try a weekly or monthly newsletter detailing everything that’s new on your site and socials.
  • Bloglovin’. An RSS feeder for those who love to read, share, and collect blog posts.
  • Also, check out Medium, Mix, Reddit, and LinkedIn, for sharing your content.

Create Share-Worthy Pins and Graphics

In order to remain relevant – and get noticed – it’s important to generate eye-catching posts, Pins, and visuals pertaining to your content. One thing I always forget to do is design a Pin to correspond with my new blog posts and share my fresh content on Pinterest.

A while back, I create about a dozen different Pin templates that are branded to my site colours and fonts, which I can customize to whatever subject matter my latest content relates to. If you’re a creative person, like me, try your hand a graphic design using a program such as Canva. If you’re not blessed in the artistic department, try out a pre-designed template.

Broken links can damage your site’s ranking and overall usability. Readers and potential customers don’t want to see the dreaded “error 404” when clicking on a link to your site. So, fix them! There are multiple “broken link checker” type sites out there – like BrokenLinkChecker.com. You can also complete this daunting task through your Google Analytics.

Test Your Site

Finally, when you have a few minutes to spare, just play around with your site! Go to all the pages, click on a few posts (both new and old), and all the clickable buttons on your website to make sure they’re all working properly. Does anything need to be update? Is your site easy to navigate, professional looking, and user friendly? Is your website compatible across all devices? And simply make changes accordingly!
