First off, gallery walls are not a new thing. Not even close! A gallery wall (otherwise referred to as a salon wall) has been around since 17th century France, as a method of displaying art. Early exhibitions featured floor to ceiling arrangements of artwork in different styles and focus, which was commonly showcased in French salons.

Cozy Comfort Essentials

There are many different types of methods of arranging and featuring art as well. Such as; a grid wall, a themed wall, the linear gallery wall, and – my personal favourite – the focal point gallery wall. However one chooses to brandish their personal interests and passions – through artwork – making the decor your own is what matters most.

What to display photos & prints in?

Frames

It is best to begin with determining the size and style of the gallery wall you wish to create. Are you looking for symmetry? Or do is a more organic esthetic more your style? Once these points are confirmed, you can decide on the frames. Don’t let this task completely overwhelm the project. This is supposed to be fun! Select a colour (black, white), choose a style (metal, wood), and whether or not a matte board is needed. Below are a few examples of frames. Canadian friends click here.

Poster Hangers

Another approach to displaying a gallery wall would be to use poster hangers. This method would be more of a minimalist direction of showcasing prints and photos. Most poster hangers are magnetic and are weighted a little to allow the print to hang straight and flat. Again, these hangers are available in many sizes and colours to suit every design expression. Strips and hooks

Creating a gallery wall in your home will inevitably mean many, many holes will be made in your lovely walls. But not necessarily! We’ve been using Command hooks and strips for hanging wall decor for a while now and I am obsessed with them! This damage-free hanging solution sticks and holds without the stress of holes and patching. Right now, the velcro-type Command strips are my go-to. These were used in both of my gallery wall installs with Poster Store and I’d use them again and again!
