The world is going to hell in a hand basket with this pandemic inflicting most of the planet. Folks are panicking and preparing for an apocalypse uprising instead of remaining calm and level-headed. Regardless of the closures, social isolation, and self-quarantine, now, more than ever, is a time to reflect and appreciate all that we have. Here are a few things I’m grateful for during this extremely trying time in the world.

Health and Wellness
Even though I am in relatively good health, I am being extra cautious to ensure it stays that way. Hand-washing, giving one another space, and simply using common sense is key at this moment in time.
TBH, I haven’t been out a whole lot in the past month. With the exception of work (after hours and weekends), the rare trip to the store for necesseties, and outside time in our small community – I’ve been holding down the fort with our eight year-old daughter.
In order to remain sane during this time of home isolation, my daughter and I have been biking and going for walks around town on a daily basis. As little as fifteen minutes of fresh air is enough to recharge my batteries and keep my mental health in check.
Family
Luckily (I think – kinda) my husband and I are both considered essential workers. He (farm feed manufacturing) and I (accounting department of a manufacturing company) have maintained a relatively normal norm and have be fortunate enough to not have any interruptions to our salary.
Regardless of the fact that we are both terrible at handling stress, we have one another to lean on and provide support. I can truly talk to my partner about anything, as can he with I.
Let me be honest here for a moment and admit that my daughter is currently at a very trying age. She is sassy, has an attitude from hell, pushes every button I have, and argues with me any chance she gets. However, I am so happy to be home with her to ensure her safety. Homeschool has been a challenge for both of us and we are working through it one day at a time.

Every minute of every day is not a complete write off though! We do have our fun moments and my girl does add some humour to the day.
Contact with close friends and extended family has consisted only of telephone, text, and social media. You know what though, this works! We can check in with one another to be sure everyone is safe and healthy, chat via phone or video chat, and catch up on Facebook.
Online and IRL Community
Besides receiving the support of family and friends, social media “friends” have been a huge support system. It really is amazing how a complete stranger can lift you up and turn your gray skies into a bright sunshiney day!
Being selective in who I choose to follow and what I endorse on Instagram (my favourite !) has basically given me a shit-tonne more friends than I actually have in reality! Those who call me out on my BS, send me a virtual hug, and who are experiencing the same hardships are super important to me right now.
Gratitude also needs to be extended to our IRL community! Our neighbours and local business operators who are in the same isolation as we are. Simply saying “hello” or “beautiful day today” to a person passing by is golden! We are fortunate enough to live in a small community where (mostly) everyone is so nice and giving, which makes getting through this pandemic that much easier.
Another of the few things I a grateful for are all those folks who are tirelessly helping stangers through this time of need.
