Self care Sunday

Sunday is often referred to as the day of rest and is, undoubtedly, the precursor to the coming week. Which is one good reason why Sunday is the ideal day for a little bit of self care. Keep in mind, though, that self care is more than just a quick manicure and reading a chapter or two of the latest self help book. Together, let’s explore some productive and beneficial self care Sunday suggestions.

Definition of self care

The practice of taking action to preserve or improve one’s own health.

Take it outside

Getting a little fresh air can do wonders for one’s mood and overall outlook on the day. Go for a stroll around your neighborhood, hike a local conservation trail, or tour a new little town or community. Be sure to dress for the weather (Autumn weather can be unpredictable), wear comfortable shoes, and don’t forget your camera.

Write it down

Take advantage of the Sunday slow-down to take note of what’s going on in your life. Whether you journal or not, jotting down a few things you’re grateful for, setting your week’s intentions, or writing down an important memory can be incredibly therapeutic.

Set the mood

Whether you’re working hard cleaning the house from top to bottom or are engaged in an intense yoga flow – setting the mood can take your senses to the next level. Light a seasonal candle, add some restorative essential oils to the diffuser, or bake something chocolatey! The right scent can clean the air, create a positive atmosphere, and just put folks in a happier frame of mind.

Hydrate

And this means everything! Hydrate on the inside and out. After taking a warm and relaxing bath, moisturize from head to toe. Make sure to really enjoy you soak, too, by adding a nice bubble bath product or checking out CBD soap for sale to make it even more relaxing and soothing on the skin. After removing your makeup at the end of the day, apply a hydrating face mask. Before jumping in the shower, give your hair some much needed attention by applying a repairing hair mask. Be sure to get in your daily eight glasses of water as well!

Listen to a podcast

Podcasts are something I’ve only recently been getting into. What often makes podcasts so entertaining is the fact that they are generally unscripted. Listeners regularly get an unedited perspective on anything from stand up comedy to celebrity interviews. My current go-to podcast is The Content Creatives Podcast!

Work your body

Exercise doesn’t always need to be intense or take up a lot of time. Visit Youtube for a few quick workout videos or just go for a run about town! Overthinking physical activity will make you not want to do it at all. Get moving!

Prep for the upcoming week

Getting the family off on the right foot for the work / school week will help to make hectic mornings a stress-free breeze! Discuss and determine what to prepare for dinner for the week. Browse the family schedule to see what’s happening during the week in order to plan ahead. Cook and prep lunches and snacks for the whole family so there is no guessing.

Take a drive

Hop in the car and go for a tour! Either alone or altogether, simply getting out of the house can bust boredom in the butt! Pack a picnic lunch or enjoy a quick meal out for a change. Again, be sure to pack a camera (and tripod if you have one) because you never know when a photo opp make present itself.

Bake your favourite dessert

Only do this if you’re in the right frame of mind because we don’t want to waste good baking supplies on a fuck up! Happiness, to me, can often be achieved with a little help from sugar and chocolate! Whip up a batch of the family’s favourite cookies or make Grandma’s famous coconut cream pie! Reminisce in the memories of baking with passed loved ones or create new memories with your littles.

Catch up on your go-to television series

Throw on your most comfortable lounge wear and get snug on the couch with your number one binge-worthy tv show! Get caught up on the latest season or start watching a new series altogether. Most streaming sites have up-to-date episodes, so just Google what you’re looking for!

Make time for your hobby

Sundays usually aren’t overly busy with important events or appointments. Which makes for a perfect opportunity to catch up on your passion or hobby. Set aside a couple of hours to repurpose that old end table, start a new knitting project, or break out the tools and make that planter box you’ve been putting off. Making time to do things that bring on pure joy is priceless.

Create something

Been wanting to try your hand at recipe testing or making soy candles? What are you waiting for?!! Get in the kitchen and start whipping up scratch (and chemical free) hand lotion or paint a masterpiece for the living room! One can only fail is they at least tried!
