Like Daughter, Like Mother?!

Have you ever bought something for your child only to discover how amazing it is and buy another for yourself? Guilty! Especially over the last two years, there have been a few specific purchases – that were intended for the kid – that have been borrowed, stolen, and even re-purchased – by mama. The saying has always gone “like mother, like daughter”, but in this case – like daughter, like mother?!

Kindle E-Reader

This was a gift purchased for our girl just this past Christmas and I don’t think she’s ever actually read anything on it! Such a waste. But kind of a blessing at the same time – because this mama has been downloading her own books and using it herself!

The problem that many parents face as their children get older is that gift giving get a heck of a lot more specific – and expensive. The items on this girls list were outrageous (both price wise and inappropriately too old for her) and were just not going to happen. So, we settled on this Kindle E-reader from Amazon thinking it would a huge hit. Wrong. Lesson learned.

Skullcandy Wireless Ear Buds

How many sets of ear buds or headphones can a kid go through in a year? The answer is a lot! They get broken, lost, stolen, the cat chews on them, or they simply wear out. Terra had been asking for Air Pods and I wasn’t willing to go to that big of an expense for a ten year-old at the time. While browsing online I discovered these beauties from Skullcandy on Amazon.

“Mini and mighty” is right! These ear buds are amazing. First off, they were incredibly affordable, being under $40. They’re also easy to use, have amazing sound, they’re super comfortable (even for small ears), and they hold a charge for a while. Naturally after Terra was bragging about how awesome her cool ear buds were – another pair was purchased. For mama!

Sephora Hair & Beauty Products

Total disclosure here. Yes, I buy Sephora products for our almost eleven year-old daughter. She will have the best (within reason). As a parent who was raised by a mother who could gives two shits about skincare and suncare, let alone makeup – I am ensuring my little lady has the knowledge and the products to care properly for her skin.

Kaja Moon Crystal Sparkling Eye Pigment

Having a child who is constantly browsing TikTok and watching her favourite Youtuber – the fact that she knows about **and often wants** the latest and greatest makeup product does not surprise me. This eye shadow cream is so amazing and is available is a variety of shades. After purchasing the lightest shade for the little, mama bought the same stuff in a bronze and taupe colour.

Ouai Detangling and Frizz Fighting Leave In Conditioner

If your child has super thick and long hair + they rarely brush and don’t care to take care of it on a regular basis – then this detangling leave-in is for you. In order to get a brush through Terra’s hair, adding this miracle product in a must! Not only does it help to get rid of the endless tangles, but it also reduces the frizz that can sometimes cause more knots to appear.

Even though this mother-daughter duo has completely opposite hair types (The young one with thick, coarse, long, and frizzy. The old one with shorter, fine hair + dry scalp) I do use this product but on a smaller scale.

Verb Detangling Brush

This brush is one of the best brushes to get through tangled hair. So much so that we now have two of these beauties in our home! For the little, this brush gets through all the knots (even while it’s wet) leaving her hair nice and smooth – and tangle-free. For the big, this brush leaves her fine locks looking nice and frizz-free.

Of course, daughters will often emulate and copy their mother. But the roll-reversal of mothers being influenced by their daughters is new. It’s kinda cool though, so just go with it!

As a girl mom, have you experienced like daughter, like mother?!
