Noom Review

It has been one month since starting Noom and I am happy to say that I am seeing and feeling results – slowly but surely! I will be documenting my Noom journey with a monthly blog post detailing my progress. So without further adieu – here is my month one Noom review!

Thanks to Noom for supplying a free four month trial to help me write this post today! However, this post reflects my own personal opinion about the Noom program.

First off – for those who live under a rock – what is Noom?!

Let’s get one thing straight – Noom is not a diet plan. The Noom platform helps people live a healthier lifestyle by working on fixing their cognitive behavior and help to improve a person’s approach to eating. Noom’s sole focus is to create a lasting lifestyle change in a person that will last well beyond their four month subscription. Noom not only zeroes in on eating habits, but also personal goals, mental health, and breaking down barriers that may be holding us back.

How does Noom do it?!

Noom uses psychology to help unlock all the why, how, what, and when of your eating and activity habits. The mini psych lessons really make you think about shit you put in your body, helping to break the barriers that may have been prohibiting you from reaching your goals in the past. These little tutorials take no time at all – I listen to the lessons while walking around town – and completing each lesson unlocks even more of your wellness journey!

How do I get in on this?

Simply visit Noom.com and begin by completing a comprehensive questionnaire to discover how Noom can help your reach your wellness goals. The most common plan is $120 for four months. This may sound steep to some, but can you really put a price tag on your health?! After a 14-day limited trial (for $1), you will be charged the full amount of the program in one lump sum and you will be introduced to your coach.

Noom review – after one month … in my opinion.

So far, so good! Have I fallen off the wagon here and there? Yes! But do I get right back on and move forward? Fucking right I do!

To start off, Noom is very convenient to use and does not monopolize any time at all. The program is very clear in it’s instructions (there is an opening lesson telling you what you need to do each day) and I don’t feel overwhelmed or put out. After about two weeks, the habit just stuck, and now it’s like second nature to do all the entries!

TBH, I do not complete the lessons every single day. I usually listen to and complete a bunch of tutorials a couple times a week because they are not long at all and I can cram a few in at a time. To each their own, but this works for me! I do weigh myself every morning – naked and after my morning toilet break – and it doesn’t bother me anymore. At first, I was a little discouraged seeing the number each day, but now it’s second nature.

The calorie restrictions have been my one caveat! With only 1200 calories per day, one really has to be conscious of what they’re putting in the bodies! To say I overeat is a huge understatement! I’m used to consuming well over 2500 calories a day – which is way too much (I know)!!! So going from that high of a caloric intake to allowing only 1200 was a very large adjustment.

I’m going to be perfectly honest here and openly admit that I’ve almost never met the 1200 calorie restriction – I’ve usually always gone over! And that’s really ok with me! I may not be reaching the goal, but at least I’m lowering my intake and making more conscious choices when it comes to meals. Whole foods – like fruit, veggies, lean protein, and healthy grains – are my top picks. I eat very little for breakfast, have a salad and lean protein for lunch, and save my bigger meals for dinner.

Do I still have dessert? Hell yes! Am I having a cocktail or glass of wine at dinner and on the weekends? Fuck yeah! However, I plan my day’s meals around whether or not I’m going to have a piece of cake for dessert or a couple of hard seltzers before supper. Planning ahead and making clear choices is key for my eating habits now!

Workouts are still on the back-burner for me right now. I really don’t want to overwhelm myself with exercise, so I’m focusing on the food aspect for time being. I do, of course, go for evening walks and take a bike ride with our daughter. So I am getting some physical activity in there!

The big question! Is the scale down at all?!

Drum roll, please … currently I am down about seven pounds!!! My weight does fluctuate a lot, but seeing the scale drop – even a little bit – is so rewarding and encouraging! I feel the weight loss is really only bloat, but even that is a huge win for me! I feel better and my clothes fit a little better than they did a month ago! So, I’m going to continue on this path to wellness and I’m going to do it for ME!!!
