Fishing is an activity that can be done pretty well year-round. It doesn’t have to cost a whole lot (though we spend a fair bit – by we, I mean my husband), and you don’t have to go far to find a honey hole.

Our seven year-old daughter loves to fish and (usually) has incredible patience while we fish.

Because let’s face it – it’s called fishing, not catching!

My husband and I used to vacation in the Kawartha Lakes every year for about eight years in a row. One week at a lake-side cottage to fish, relax, and unplug. Our last year was when I was pregnant with our daughter.

It wasn’t until last year that we decided to return for another fishing trip in our favourite part of Ontario. We weren’t certain how our daughter would fare being away from home for a week with people she’d never met in an area she’d never been. To our delight, she was just fine!

Kids make friends incredibly easily and our little social butterfly found a new bestie and was happy as a pig in shit!

This trip was mainly a fishing trip for my husband (hello, musky to be caught) but also a family getaway.

We fished every single day and caught something every single day. Mind you, I was with the kiddos on the dock fishing with worms for sunfish, perch, and little bass while hubby was on the lake hunting for lunkers – but it was awesome!

Next month we’re heading back to the same cottage resort and vacationing together with the same folks we met last year for more fishing and family fun. There will definitely be a post after this trip! Can’t wait!
