Why so obsessed with Christmas?
Tell me, what is with everyone’s obsession with all things Christmas? I truly don’t get it.
Christmas is a wonderful holiday, don’t get me wrong, but I find that folks take the season a bit too far.
Honestly, I’ve always had a lovely Christmas growing up, but I don’t recall this kind of fanatical obsession until I was an adult!
Recently I noticed last night (November 2nd!!) that they were already broadcasting Christmas commercials and there are Holiday movies on TV. Don’t get me started on the fact that some stores were getting out Christmas stock at the same time as fall and Halloween inventory!
First off, before Christmas advertising and marketing begins, can some attention be devoted to REMEMBERANCE DAY! I can understand why stores are stocking their shelves early since Christmas will be their most profitable time of the year, but let’s have some respect for those who have served and died for the rest of us before the world goes to hell in a hand basket over Christmas!
There are people who have a Christmas countdown on Facebook! I’ve unfollowed friends for just this reason! I don’t give two shits if Christmas is just 247 days away IN APRIL! You should not have your Christmas tree up before Rememberance Day – or Halloween for that matter! So let’s just take a giant step back …

It’s all become a keep up with the Jones’ type of scenario. Who can do Christmas decor bigger and better. Which house on the block has the best twinkle light display. How many Christmas trees you put up … and the $$dollar$$ value of the whole kit n’ caboodle!
We’re missing the whole point of this holiday!
My parents are a great example of the above. A while back, I’m talking 15-20 years now, they bought 4 foot tall singing and dancing Santa (which was certainly not cheap)! They love him and proudly display him every year. But he’s huge! They have no practical way to store him during the year! So they just cover him with a blanket and put him in the corner. Another example, is a beautiful Christmas rug featuring Santa in front of a fireplace. Again, this “special piece” is massive, so it just gets another covering and is placed in the spare room!
Making my point is that the items that make Christmas “Christmas” (to some), take up a lot of room, eat up our time, test our patience, cost our $$$$$, and compete with our integrity … IS IT REALLY WORTH IT!

The Holidays have become too commercialized in the past decade! It’s all about having the latest this or that, how festive your home looks, all the cookies and holiday treats you bake, the twinkling lights, the amount of money you spend on loved ones! STOP, please!
Let’s dial it back a notch!
Can we not go back to a few lights, a proud tree, a few trinkets and a bit of garland tastefully adorned in the house BEGINNING THE FIRST OF DECEMBER AND ENDING ON BOXING DAY!!!
Bring back the tradition and true meaning of Christmas! No competition. No big price tags. No huge piles of useless gifts. Instead, have a delicious holiday meal with all the trimmings, surrounded by loved ones! Attend your (insert religious affiliate here) service on Christmas Eve!
