A Head Start on Holiday Shopping

Total truth here, I am not a Christmas fanatic! Decor is put up and taken down in the matter of only a couple of weeks and big fussy gatherings are not my cup of tea! My husband and I are, however, firm believers in planning ahead and that includes getting a head start on holiday shopping.

Typically, we have started our Christmas shopping (particularly for our daughter) in August or September. We usually have a good idea of what we are looking to buy and jump on deals well in advance of other shoppers. Here are a few tips on how you too can get a jump on holiday shopping this year.

Browse the Flyers

Taking a peak at the weekly circular for home and grocery essentials is a smart move any time of year. But keeping in mind the latest items the kiddos have haphazardly been asking for while reviewing current sales is a genius move!

So, every week, when the flyers are delivered (or online if preferred), take a look to see if the Ipad your child’s been coveting or the latest Nintendo Switch game is on promotion and just pick it up and put it away for safe keeping. This is also a brilliant strategy for other holiday gifts and birthdays.

End of Season Clear Outs

Just because Summer is over doesn’t mean folks won’t continue to lust after summer-related items. Keep an eye out at the end of every season for items friends and family may enjoy. Perhaps a close friend is really into skiing. Why not pick up a set of beginner skis on clearance from the previous season! Does your daughter or son want to take up paddle boarding? Scour the sporting goods shops at the end of Summer and save a bundle!

Local Buy & Sell Facebook Groups

A meaningful gift does not necessarily need to be purchased brand new in order for someone to love and appreciate it. Our household, for example, is working hard to declutter and rid ourselves (and our home) of unwanted stuff. One person’s trash is another’s treasure – sell that shit and help another family enjoy making memories – for less!

So, get a head start of holiday shopping this year! Get in and get out (or just shop online) and get the stress and hurry out of the way. You never know, you may even save a few bucks by planning ahead!
