A Lesson to My Younger Self … Dress for the Weather!

We all want to make a statement with our look – especially as a teenager!  We have people to impress and boys to attract and always something to prove – even when the weather turns cold.  Dress for the weather – dumbass!

What I’d tell my teenage self about dressing properly for the colder months!

A lesson to my younger self:  Dress for the weather!

First off, WINTER BOOTS!  You have them.  They’re warm.  They are meant to be worn in snow and slush and in temperatures that reach well below zero.  SO WEAR THEM ALREADY!

Please don’t wear your desert boots – remember those ankle-height suede shooties with absolutely no insulation whatsoever!  Also, DOC MARTINS ARE NOT MEANT TO BE WORN IN COLD WEATHER!  Again, these statement-making boots (I had the black six-hole Docs!) are not meant to keep your feet warm when trudging through knee deep snow!

So, when the tips of your toes start to turn blue and get frost-bitten (this actually happened) – don’t blame anyone but yourself!

A leather jacket is for fashion, not function!  There is no insulation to speak of in this type of jacket.  WEAR A PROPER WINTER COAT!  Even though you take the bus to school, which is heated, doesn’t mean that you should scrimp on keeping your body warm.  What if the bus should break down or, heaven forbid, be involved in a accident?  You’d be screwed because you’d freeze to death!

Hats and mitts are not for wimps!  Ironically, they keep you head, ears, and hands toasty warm in the winter!  You are not a lesser person because you choose to wear these accessories!

As a grown-up, I dress for the weather accordingly!

In the spring, I frequently wear rain boots, since it’s so bloody mucky after the snow melts!  Not only does this keep my feet warm and dry, but my dressy footwear (albeit expensive!) lasts longer since they don’t have to endure the elements as much!

When it rains, I wear my jacket with a hood, so I don’t get soakered on the way to work!  Hair and makeup don’t get totally ruined, I don’t have to sit in damp clothes at my desk.  COMMON SENSE, RIGHT??!!

During the cold winter months, I ACTUALLY DRESS ACCORDINGLY!  Winter coat, warm winter boots, hat and mitts!  And, just so you know!  I don’t care what anyone thinks about how I’m dressed!  Other adults are likely dressed the same way and I’m warm and cozy!

So, in short, please don’t be a bonehead!  Dress for the weather.  Your toes will thank you for it … because now I have life-long damage to my toes from not wearing the proper footwear, thank you very much!
