First and Foremost. The weather is much more enjoyable in Fall!

As an occasional runner, struggling through scorching temperatures and torturous humidity is far from enjoyable! Even though the weather during the Fall months can be unpredictable, the cooler temperatures are a lot more conducive to outdoor activities than in summer.

Preparation is key.

  • Plan your outdoor workout sessions by consulting the weather forecast at the start of the week. Of course, the weather can change on an hourly basis, let alone within a week. But this does give you a bit of a guideline to work with.
  • Be sure to dress for the occasion. Early morning and evenings especially can seem cool when you first step out. However, after a short while, you heat up pretty quickly. The best course of action is layering with breathable, moisture wicking clothing.
  • Mapping out your route is always a good idea – especially for when you are in an unfamiliar area. Also, prepare for unpredictable terrain, like hiking trails, that may be effected by a recent rain or frost.

Exercising outdoors in Autumn is just … breathtaking!

Arguably, Autumn is the most beautiful season of the year! The changing leaves and crisp temperatures are so pretty and uplifting – not to mention motivating! It is said that wearing a cute outfit to the gym or while running can put a little more pep in one’s step. So, undoubtedly, taking in some beautiful scenery and fresh cool air should have the same effect – right?!

Grab a friend and go for a fall trail walk and maybe hit up a local brewery for a celebratory pint on the way home! Round up the family to walk a local river and fish along the way (if the season is still open!!). Or even take a solo sideroad tour and hit up some hidden paths for a little adventure. Be sure to bring your camera because the scenery will be epic!

Get the kids involved, too! Fall is such a wonderful season simply because the woods seem to come alive! Animals are gathering and preparing for the cold winter ahead and migratory birds are heading south. We, as a family, love to walk in the woods looking for animal tracks, scat, sign, and even the odd wild creature in their own habitat.
