Family Fun Close to Home

Here in Ontario, there are only five days left of school. Now the big question every parent is asking each other is – what the heck are we doing for fun this Summer?! Truth be told, we, like most families we know, are not traveling far this upcoming Summer. So we’re turning to local attractions and searching for family fun close to home.

But where do I even begin my search?

Visit your local municipality or township website

Your own community often has so much fun and recreation to offer – you just have to look. On the municipal website, you’ll generally find information on local beaches and marinas, trails, parks, and a calendar full of community events. There are often hidden gems in your own neighbourhood that you never even knew were there!

Local travel and tour guides

On your next grocery run, drop by the community tourist center to stock up on travel guides, maps, and visitor info for planning out your Summer adventures. These guides *and their corresponding websites* are chock full of everything from museums to spas, where to eat and sleep, and ideas for outdoor recreation. Check out this amazing guide!

Google Maps

Pull up Google Maps on your computer, tablet, or phone – and just search for something fun and interesting to do! This app and site is an all in one resource guide that can answer so many questions in one place.

  • How far is it? Map out your trip and all your stops.
  • Where are we going to eat? Pin restaurants in the area + get reviews before dining.
  • Can we go shopping? Get retail shop hours and visit store sites prior to getting there in person.
  • Plus look for parking, get traffic details, and know where to fill up before the trek home.

Social media friends

Do you ever see a friend’s (in person or online) Instagram post showcasing a fun and unique family outing and think “that would be so much fun, we have to go!!” Social media is an awesome resource for discovering new and exciting things to do as a family. Most content creators will be honest about their experience and some may even have discount codes to share. Remember to save these posts the next time you’re scrolling!
